Today we were able to complete a quad tine of the South Course greens that we planned. Timing worked out very well. We were able to complete the entire process before 10:30 A.M. which is before the temperature started to climb. As mentioned in our previous post this benefits the turf by helping remove some organic matter as well as let the soil “breath”. However, we thought it was best to delay sand topdressing at this time because the added abrasion from brushing during the heat could be detrimental to the turf. Next week we will plan to topdress lighly greens in conjunction with scheduled fairway topdressing as long as the weather allows. Below are a few pictures of the process.
- Here is 6 South green in the process of being quad tined.
- Here 12 South green has been quad tined and the cores are ready to be removed.
- Here are a few cores that were removed. While they are small, any time some organic matter can be removed, it is beneficial for the turf.
- Greens are cleaned off using a combination of back pack blowers, shovels, and lutes.
- Once all of the cores are removed, the green is rolled in order to smooth the surface.
- Here the left side has not been rolled, while the right side has been rolled.
- After the green is rolled, a fresh cup is cut and the green is ready for play.
