Today, we are performing a deep solid tine aerification on North greens. We are using 1/2 inch diameter tines and working down to around 8 inches in depth. This process is beneficial in preparing the greens for winter by improving water infiltration, lessening the chance of ice to form on the surface. The deep hole also provides a channel for roots to grow deeper and oxygen to reach the roots.

The holes will be noticeable for the next few days on the surface although daily rolling of the greens will assist in closing these holes up on the surface. The benefits of this process will hopefully extend through the winter providing healthy greens for the next golf season. Below are pictures of the deep tine process and the tines used.
