Towards the end of summer last year we had some issues with the turf on the smallest green at the practice facility. The turf became thin because water sits in low spots and drains slowly. In order to correct this issue we removed sod from the bad areas, pulled cores approximately ten inches deep with a one inch soil probe, back filled with sand, and re-sodded the area. This modification along with aggressive aerification will help amend the soil profile to create improved conditions. If the green is to remain, a long term plan would be to rebuild a slightly larger green to USGA specification The pictures below show the progress of this project.
- Here the holes have been punched and are being filled with sand.
- After the holes have been filled, the excess sand was removed and the area was re-sodded.
- The section along the edge has been completed and we will move onto the thin area on the right side of the picture.
