On January 15th we constructed the ice rink on clay tennis court #1. For those of you that might be interested in the process . . . it starts with placing 225 foam insulation boards on top of the clay surface. We then construct the side boards along the fence of the court which hold in the water for making ice. Next we lay down a single piece of plastics on top of the foam boards and over the side boards. The plastic is held in place by yellow foam caps that go on the top of the side boards. Finally, we fill the ice rink with water overnight and the rest is on mother nature.
Since we do not have a chiller system in our ice rink, we rely on consistent below freezing temperatures for creating ice. So far we have not experienced weather supportive of significant ice making although the forecast for next week shows some promise. Members will be updated if and when the ice rink is ready for skating.
