Junior Tennis Program

Kids will develop and build their rallying and playing skills through a variety of fun and engaging athletic, technical, and tactical games. Whether they are brand new to tennis or have experience our goal is to get kids moving and playing with one another from the first time they step on the court!

The full list of session dates and junior clinic policies are listed below. Class times are subject to change due to indoor court availability.

Red 1 (5-6 years): Players are introduced to tennis through fun, skill-building activities. The primary focus is on developing a strong athletic foundation of the ABC’s (Agility, Balance, and Coordination). Kids will play on a 36’ court with the Red ball and use 19’’-23’’ racquets.

Red 2 (7-8 years): Players are introduced to tennis through fun, skill-building activities. The primary focus is on developing a strong athletic foundation of the ABC’s (Agility, Balance, and Coordination). Kids will play on a 36’ court with the Red ball and use 19’’-23’’ racquets.

Orange (9-10 years): Players will focus on developing a solid technical base in movement and strokes including ball control. They will also learn the rules and basic strategy and incorporate in point play situations. Kids will play on a 60’ court with the Orange ball and use 23’’-25’’ racquets.

Green (11-12 years): Players will focus on developing a solid technical base in movement and strokes including ball control. They will also learn the rules and basic strategy and incorporate in point play situations. Kids will play on a 78’ court with Green Dot and use 26’’-27’’ racquets.

Yellow (13-14 years): Players will practice the fundamental strokes while applying it to singles and doubles matchplay to prepare for Middle School and High School seasons. Kids will play on a 78’ court with Yellow balls and use 27’’ racquets.

Junior Competition

These classes are for players who want to pursue more competitive opportunities and meet WCC Jr. Tennis Pathway parameters. Competition players will be encouraged to play on our Junior League Teams, as well as compete in both District (DE), Sectional (DE, NJ, PA) USTA tournaments. Classes will include on-court playing and off-court fitness training portions.

All players who register for the full session will receive an End of Session Player Review. Class times are subject to change due to indoor court availability.

Orange Competition: Players will focus on the foundational rally skills while developing the skill of moving forward into the court. Kids in this group will be encouraged to play in the Delaware Junior Team Tennis Association US Open Jr. League and USTA Level 8 Orange ball tournaments and participate.

Green Competition: Players will continue to develop their shot making ability in the midcourt and front court and be introduced to specific competitive patterns of play. Kids in this group will be encouraged to play in the Delaware Junior Team Tennis Association Wimbledon Jr. LeagueUSTA Level 7 Green Dot tournaments and participate

Yellow Competition 1: Players will be perfecting their individual style of play and learning how to combat opposing styles. Kids in this group will be encouraged to play in the Delaware Junior Team Tennis Association Davis Cup Jr. League and USTA Level 7 tournaments.

Yellow Competition 2: Players will be perfecting their individual style of play and learning how to combat opposing styles. Kids in this group will be encouraged to play USTA Level 6 tournaments and higher.

High School: Primary focus will be on refining doubles and singles tactics specifically designed for the Spring High School season. Kids are encouraged to play on WCC Jr. League Teams.

High Performance: Concentration will be on offensive and defensive patterns of play and sharpening the tools needed to execute them at the highest level.

2019-2020 Session Dates:

Session 1: September 9-November 3

Session 2: November 4-December 22 (No class Thanksgiving Day)

Holiday Camps: December 23-January 5

Session 3: January 6-February 23

Session 4: February 24-April 12

Session 5: April 13-May 31

Class Size Policy: To ensure each player receives the best quality of instruction we will be limiting class sizes to six players per court. Classes will also need at least four players for the program to go forward.

Make Up Class Policy: Kids can make up two classes in the following session. If your child is not able to come, please let us know so that players on the waiting list or who’d like to drop in are able to join the class that day.

Drop-In Policy: Kids are able to drop-in into any appropriate level class that is not full (6 kids). The drop-in rate is slightly higher per class than registering for the entire session.
